Making a Profit
Complex altruistic statements are often presented to disguise the underlying purpose of all commercial organisations and that is to make a profit. The prime purpose of the Tree of Life Computers is to make a profit so that it can provide a livelihood for its principals and continue in business. The way that business is conducted and the strategy for maintaining the ability of the company to continue and develop that business is the meat of the 'Mission Statement'.
The Principles of Business
The three principles which guide the conduct of Tree of Life in its relationships with its customers are as follows.
- Give the customer what they want.
- Give honest and prompt answers.
- Give good value for money.
Building Trust
Trust between customer and supplier is the bedrock of any on-going relationship. In order to engender such trust, and to fulfill the three principles above, our business has always sought to work to the highest standards and to be impartial in our advice. This policy, we believe, leads to a successful business and is an essential part of our Christian ideal.
Local Service
We at Tree of Life computers have been providing a complete computer service to the local area around Campbeltown and in Kintyre for almost 30 years and expect to continue to do so. This continuing day to day business activity includes, the provision and manufacture of new computers, the repair, service and setup of computers, the design and installation of networks, the installation and setup of software systems and finally the training of people to using their systems. Our desire is to continue to provide this wide ranging local service to our community around Campbeltown and in Kintyre.
Impartial Advice
For our advice to be impartial about hardware, software and service matters it is important for us not to be married to any one area of technology. This has meant that we have had to develop knowledge and skills in a variety of operating systems, hardware platforms, software products and software development regimes. Our advice may often be to buy a Microsoft Windows based solution but is by no means always so. In many cases Linux based solutions may be more convincing. The same freedom from a single technology dominance applies in the software area, in hardware suppliers and in service providers. Tree of Life has developed mature relationships with many suppliers and is wary of any dominant player.
Web Applications
We have been providing hardware and software support in a wider area to a variety of organisations and have now produced Web-based application serving software systems with a national implementation and use. (A knowledge of Perl, Mysql, Linux, Apache, html and the appropriate software techniques has made this possible.) This extends the reach of this company and our customers.
